Asia's leading international law firm KWM is proud to release the inaugural issue of NEXT, a new publication dedicated to exploring business' role in addressing the major issues society confronts.

NEXT focuses on environmental concerns, workplace health and safety issues and major incidents, and shares leading thinkers' insights into how businesses in every sector can approach them.

KWM Environment and Planning Law Partner and NEXT editor Mark Beaufoy said the idea was born from KWM's major incidents team recognising 'a fundamental shift' meant strategically-minded businesses needed guidance.

"Much like the Financial Services Royal Commission triggered a fundamental shift in community expectations of banks, this past summer's bushfires highlighted the current and future impacts of climate change, and the current pandemic will continue to drive increased health, safety and environmental awareness among consumers, and regulation by Governments.

"The community is looking to companies big and small to provide vital continuity – maintaining supplies, preserving lives, preserving finances and preserving futures."

In his foreword to readers, KWM Partner and Industrials and Consumer sector lead Adrian Perkins writes that businesses' efforts to ensure continuity through the COVID-19 crisis demonstrates a creative ingenuity many firms mightn't have realised they could muster.

"The current environment presents an unparalleled opportunity for business to lead – to prove that the same agility shown in responding and adapting to the pandemic can be applied to tackling society's greatest environmental, safety and technological challenges."
