Mr. Yong Kaichang specializes in cross-border mergers & acquisitions, investments, capital markets, corporate finance and corporate/commercial advisory. He also has substantive litigation and dispute resolution experience.
Mr. Yong has over 16 years of experience, and has lived and worked in China/Hong Kong for 13 years. He has led and advised on numerous significant global M&A transactions, covering all aspects such as structuring, regulatory and compliance, due diligence, negotiations, documentation, implementation and post-closing integration. He has led and advised on numerous securities transactions on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Singapore Stock Exchange, covering all aspects such as capital raising, equity and debt issues, acquisitions and disposals, and regulatory and compliance.
Mr. Yong’s client portfolio covers many state-owned and state-linked enterprises, multinational and domestic companies, listed and private companies, investment banks and financial institutions in various industries, including energy, mining, infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, real estate, aviation, automotive, hospitality, food and beverage, and financial services. These include Baosteel, China Eastern Airlines, CITIC Group, Country Garden, Danone, eBay, Far East Horizon, Great Wall Pan Asia International Investment, Greenland Group, Hangzhou Binjiang, HNA Group, Huatai Investment Funds, Shanghai Jin Jiang, Shanghai Municipal Electric Company Limited and State Grid.
In 2017, Mr. Yong was listed as a recommended Corporate and M&A lawyer in “The Legal 500”. Recently, he advised a PRC consortium of five state-owned enterprises in a US$1.95 billion investment in a Brazilian mining company, which was awarded Deal of the Year by Asian-Mena Counsel and China Business Law Journal.
Mr. Yong joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2016. Prior to this, he practiced at Baker & McKenzie (Shanghai/Beijing/Hong Kong) and Drew & Napier (Singapore). He obtained his LLB degree (Honours) from the National University of Singapore in 2001. He is admitted as a lawyer in Singapore (2002), England & Wales (2006) and Hong Kong (2011).
Mr. Yong is fluent in English and Chinese Mandarin.
