Sue Kench

Sue Kench is Chief Executive Partner, Australia, for King & Wood Mallesons.  She is responsible for the strategic direction, growth, leadership and network integration of the firm.  Central to that role is ensuring that the service the firm delivers is of real value to clients.  Sue is also responsible for extending and deepening the firm’s international footprint in key growth markets.

Prior to her appointment, Sue was Managing Partner for the firm's Real Estate, Construction and Infrastructure sector and Real Estate, Construction and Environmental Law practice group, overseeing the firm's delivery of capability and expertise to our clients in this sector.  Sue was also a member of the firm’s Board for three years (2010-2012) and co-chaired the firm’s Partners’ Admissions Committee (2005-2012).

Sue’s background is in real estate investment and development, acting for institutions, developers, investors and banking clients.  For over 20 years, she assisted major players in the real estate sector on structuring and executing complex and ground-breaking deals.  Sue’s experience has afforded her critical insights into clients’ needs, expectations and commercial drivers, which she uses to help the firm enrich the overall client experience.

Sue has been the winner of the inaugural Euromoney Legal Media Group Asia Women in Business Law Awards 2011 and 2012 for real estate and the inaugural Euromoney Australasia Women in Business Law Awards 2012 for real estate. She was also named a Best of the Best 2013 and 2011 Real Estate lawyer by the same publication.  Sue is listed as a leading individual for Commercial Property/Real Estate in Chambers Global Guide 2013, Asia Pacific Legal 500 2013, PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook 2012/2013 and Best Lawyers International (Australia) 2012.

Asia Pacific Legal 500 2013 described Sue as "one of 'the best all-round property lawyers in Australia'”.
