Dispute Resolution and Litigation

Dispute Resolution & Litigation - UK

Solve the problem and get the best outcome for your business

Disputes are an inevitable part of business. Whether you are involved in a commercial dispute, in financial litigation, under investigation, or simply keen to protect your business and ensure full compliance, our dispute resolution team can help. Whatever the situation, our top priority is always to get the right outcome for you.

Resolving issues and minimising future disputes

Regulators in the UK and around the world are looking to safeguard consumers and investors alike while improving corporate governance. The financial crisis, arrival of new legislation including the Bribery Act, increased regulatory enforcement, and an upsurge in cross-border activity, means there has never been a better time to look at your dispute resolution strategy.

To help you do this, our dispute resolution and litigation lawyers start by listening to you so they can understand your commercial drivers. This means that when we apply our expertise in court, in arbitration and across jurisdictions, the outcome is a win for your business.

The team in the UK is part of a 140 strong team of disputes partners globally. No other law firm can give you the integrated dispute resolution and litigation service across China, Europe, Australia, Hong Kong and the Middle East that we can.

Experience in a wide range of disputes

We specialise in high value, high stakes, complex litigation, with a particular expertise in multi-jurisdictional disputes. With our depth of experience in every type of dispute, we are able to bring the necessary expertise to bear in any situation. Clients benefiting from our expertise in multi-jurisdictional disputes include a major Russian telecommunications group, whom we defended in litigation and arbitration proceedings in connection with the enforcement of a US$220 million arbitration award. The jurisdictions involved were England, the Seychelles, Luxembourg, the Isle of Man, and Kyrgyzstan.

Financial disputes

Disputes involving financial institutions often require a sophisticated understanding of complex financial products, as well as an in-depth understanding of the way in which the financial markets operate. We advise on issues of every variety and complexity. In addition, we advise market participants under investigation by the financial regulators, helping them to navigate the best way through.

Our experience includes acting for a syndicate of eight banks in connection with the default of a bank to take up its allocation of €500+ million of a syndicated loan facility.

We are equally experienced in fraud claims. For example, we successfully represented the defendants up to the Supreme Court in claims involving allegations of fraud and conspiracy brought by one of Russia’s leading banks. And we represented the shareholder in a high-profile billion-dollar dispute in connection with a Russian chain of supermarkets.

Compliance and investigations

Regulation is a feature of virtually every industry and is only increasing. When a regulatory body launches an investigation, the stakes are high and you need the best advice possible. We advise on everything from managing the risks inherent in your organisation to preparing for dawn raids. If an investigation does strike, we will help you gather the facts, respond to the regulator and manage your reputation.

Our track record also includes representing the major tyre manufacturers of Europe in their follow-on litigation against synthetic rubber manufacturers as well as defending a major European hedge fund in an investigation into market abuse (insider dealing) in connection with allegations of wall crossing.

"Takes a client-driven approach, which combines a strategic overview with intelligent aggression where needed."
